STRENGTH IN UITY AND ACTION
HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
Our Journey
The Urban League of Canada was founded in 2012 in North York, Ontario, to address the growing disparities in access to health education and fitness opportunities. The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the need for organizations like ours to bridge the gap between underserved communities and access to quality programs.
Over the years, we have expanded our reach through partnerships with local schools, senior centers, and sports organizations. From offering youth mentorship programs to creating injury prevention workshops for seniors, our programs are rooted in evidence-based practices and a deep commitment to community well-being.
Key Milestones
- 2012: Established with a focus on youth empowerment through sports.
- 2015: Launched the “Better Bones & Balance” program for seniors.
- 2018: Introduced the “Sportified” initiative to mentor youth in pursuing sports scholarships.
- 2022: Expanded digital training workshops to reach remote communities.
