What is Little Steps?

Little Steps is a transformative program designed for youth aged 14-26 who are not currently in school, a training program, or employment. Hosted by the Urban League of Canada in partnership with the Youth Service Canada Resistance Training Program, Little Steps integrates exercise, education, and entrepreneurship training to inspire participants to explore new career paths in the sports industry.

About Brooklyn

Who Can Join?

  • Youth aged 14-26 who are out of school, work, or training programs.
  • Individuals seeking a supportive environment to develop new skills and discover career opportunities.

The program aims to provide a fresh perspective on learning, growth, and community impact.

Why Little Steps Matters

Youth without access to education or employment often face significant barriers to achieving their potential. Little Steps addresses these challenges by:

  • Fostering a sense of community responsibility and empowerment.
  • Offering hands-on experience in project planning, leadership, and teamwork.
  • Guiding participants toward career paths in fitness, health, education, and self-employment.

Through this program, participants gain practical skills and confidence to envision brighter futures.

How Little Steps Works

Our program is designed around a dynamic and collaborative approach:

1. Team Development

Participants work in teams of two to design and support the implementation of Little Steps activities at five community locations across Toronto. This collaborative model fosters teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.

2. Volunteer Recruitment and Training

Participants recruit and train “Little Steps Ambassadors” who will help deliver the program in community centers and recreational facilities. This hands-on experience provides valuable organizational and mentoring skills.

3. Program Demonstrations

Participants lead demonstrations of Little Steps activities in local community centers. These activities showcase the program’s focus on exercise training management and inspire community engagement.

4. Career Action Plan

By the end of the program, each participant will develop a written career action plan. This roadmap outlines steps for pursuing opportunities in fields such as fitness, health, education, and self-employment.
