Sportify

Empowering Underserved Youth Athletes
What is Sportified?
Sportified is a unique program hosted by the Urban League of Canada, designed to empower youth athletes from underserved communities. Our goal is to provide both educational and athletic support to help participants thrive in school and sports. By combining education and sports, Sportified opens doors to opportunities like scholarships, career growth, and personal development.

About Brooklyn

Who Can Join?

  • Youth athletes between the ages of 13-18.
  • Participants must reside in low-income or at-risk communities.
  • The program is designed for high school students passionate about sports but facing barriers like limited access to equipment, training facilities, or mentorship.

Enrollment is available once a year, so don’t miss your chance to join this life-changing experience.

Why Sportify Matters

Many youth in low-income communities face significant barriers that limit their potential:

  • Lack of access to nutritious food, financial stability, and educational resources.
  • Few opportunities for sports training or exposure to scouts.

Sportified addresses these challenges by:

  • Keeping youth in school and helping them achieve higher academic performance.
  • Providing athletic training and resources to improve sports skills.
  • Guiding participants toward scholarships that can advance their education and future careers.

How Sportify Works

Our program combines four key activities to ensure success:

1. Counseling

Participants start with a one-on-one session with a counselor. Together, they identify challenges and create a personalized career and life plan.

2. Sports Assessment

Each athlete undergoes a comprehensive evaluation of their performance. Coaches use this information to tailor training plans, helping participants excel in their chosen sport.

3. Education Mentoring

Before every practice, participants attend sessions focused on academic improvement. These include:

  • Enhancing grades.
  • Building essential study skills.
  • Exploring future educational paths.

4. Scholarship Planning

In the second half of the program, students begin working on their scholarship applications. This includes:

  • Writing essays and motivation letters.
  • Creating sports highlight videos.
  • Developing a portfolio to showcase their achievements.

How to Enroll

Enrollment is simple and happens once a year:

  1. Fill out the online application form.
  2. Submit required documents (proof of residency, age, and a letter of recommendation from a coach or teacher).
  3. Attend an introductory session to learn more about the program.
